The Fort Frederick Heritage Preserve is rich in history as it is natural beauty. This three acre piece of property on the edge of the Beaufort River has seen multiple and diverse uses throughout its past. First visited by the local indigenous population prior to Europeans ever setting foot on the land, it was used as a smoking area for the preservation of the oyster catch. Then as Europeans started to come ashore it’s been in British Military, private, Union Military, private, United States Navy military, and then finally the state of South Carolina Department of Natural Resources hands within the last 284 years. Join Amanda as she expresses in detail the storied past of this marvelous area.
Programs at the Santa Elena History Center are offered at no cost to Annual Passholders. Others in attendance are asked to make a donation of their choice.
